Planning early/mid-January trip out west - CA or CO?

Hey everyone. As the title states, I'm looking to go on a snowboarding trip in early January, tentatively looking at the 10th-16th, and boarding Mon-Fri. I've never been out west so this would be a pretty awesome experience for me. I'll be entering my third season (or my second full season), but I hit about 40 days of boarding last season so I've progressed rapidly to more of an advanced intermediate level. This is sort of my 30th birthday present from my parents, who will be coming with me but don't ski or board.
I was originally thinking about going to Vail, and splitting my time up so I'd spend three days there and two days at either Breck or Keystone. Looking at packages, it seems like the best we can do for under $1000/person is flying into EGE (layover in Denver) and staying at the Vail Racquet Club. I've read some reviews, and they're generally good but you've gotta make sure you get an updated room.
I'm now starting to look at mountains in California, specifically Mammoth. It seems like the prices are roughly the same compared to the Vail area, at least for flight/room packages. Looking at ticket prices, I could split my time between Mammoth and June, and spend less than if got a 5-day pass to the Vail-area mountains. I'm thinking this might be better for my skill level, considering I probably won't be able to fully appreciate the sweet back bowls at Vail (may want to save that trip for when I'm a bit more advanced). For resorts, I'm looking at Juniper Springs and the Village Lodge.
If you've boarded both areas, what would you suggest for a more intermediate rider? We'd like to stick with a more resort/condo-type living arrangement, mainly for the full kitchen so we won't have to eat out every night. I'd also like it if there were things for my parents to do (they seem to love casinos), since I'd feel pretty bad if they had to sit around while I spend the entire time having a blast. Also for attractions, I wouldn't mind taking a day off and driving an hour or two if there were some museums or downtown areas we could visit.
Thanks in advance! Sorry if this was a bit too long but I'm pretty excited about whatever trip we choose! :jumping1:
