Questioning snowboard maintenance

Ok im not really questioning it. I still tune and maintain my boards regularly, but i have a several friends that have been snowboarding for many years and theyre the kind of guys that just bought a snowboard and rode it. They dont know the differences between shape, flex, etc.
Heres the thing, they have done no maintenance to their 5 - 8 year old boards. No waxing, sharpening, nothing. But they still ride very well! Absolutely no hinders in performance due to the snowboard being old, not waxed, dull edges.
I tell them they they can sharpen and wax their boards and theyll perform much better, but it always gets shrugged off. They dont even consider a new board because "a snowboard is a snowboard, you just get on and ride it".
Sometimes i wish i had that attitude instead of thinking about what tech my board is missing, when my next sharpen should be, etc.
