Getting on the Front Foot

Hi, I am a relative beginner snowboarder (3 weeks) and I have real trouble getting onto the front foot when boarding. I think this is because I have surfed all my life and so am used to driving a turn through my back foot. When in powder this is great and feels really natural, but when I'm on the piste I sometimes lose control at speed because when I turn my weight is on the back end.
I know that I need to put more weight on my front foot but that seems to be easier said than done and so I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and if they have any tips or exercises that will help.
