Review: 2016 Burton Marilyn Monroe Custom

Hi everyone,
I'm writing this review after literally walking off the mountain whereby I tested the Burton Marilyn Custom. I test a lot of snowboards (if anyone from Burton is reading this then please send me some boards for testing) and this year I decided to look at a limited edition line up. The last snowboard I reviewed on here was the 2014 Easy Livin which was a great board but I've since realised it does have some limitations.
Anyway, on with the Marilyn review...
Looks
As far as looks go, this board is a serious eye catcher. I tested the 154cm board and Marylin's face on the front on the board is noticeable from a reasonable distance. If you're after a board to boost your ego then this is the Queen of all boards. I can guarantee you'll have everyone looking at you and asking about it. The red and black colours are striking and the photo of Marilyn has been captured and placed perfectly. Having said this, I was seriously concerned that someone may steal the board when I racked it back at the village. This board stands out amongst others and I was paranoid that someone would grab it and disappear with it.
Performance
This board is a pure camber board and I felt it was designed for stability and performance at high speeds. Turning was 'ok' (see more below) and I noticed the board quickly gained momentum under my feet without much effort. As a result, I would only recommend this board for resort, groomer snowboarding and less so backcountry. This is my personal opinion but I'm sure many would concur if they had the opportunity to ride it.
Although the board is twin directional you probably wouldn't want to ride switch given the direction of the decal on the board. I didn't try riding switch but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard although riding park and rails wouldn't be recommended with this board for the reasons I listed above. It's a board designed for speed, not so tricks and jumping.
This is an expensive high performance board and the three features that stood out for me were (1) speed, (2) braking, and (3), flexibility. I've already mentioned speed but I was curious to test its braking. Coming to an abrupt stop on a groomer is essential for me and I found this board to be excellent. The sides of the board dig right into the snow while absorbing shock and weight. Lastly, the flexibility of this board is pretty good. I tried to penguin walk a few times and was impressed as to how high I could lift the nose and tail.
The only other thing worth mentioning is shock absorption. Some boards absorb shock very well and others not so well. In the other review I posted on here I mentioned the Easy Livin was easy to ride. But after a year of using it I now feel every bump run under my foot. The Marilyn Custom is different in that it glides really well over the snow. On my second run I miscalculated a bump and I felt the board somewhat saved me from falling over. It's features like this that I really value and notice in a board. They're important to me.
The downside to this board is that turning was not as quick as I would have liked. To be fair, today was the first time I was getting used to the board but I found myself having to really kick the feet to steer the board towards the direction I wanted to go. In the past, some boards I've tested needed to be broken in so maybe this board will turn better after a few more days of riding. Another area for improvement is that this board felt somewhat heavier than others. I haven't' weighed it but I did notice the difference when I picked it up for the first time (note I was comparing it to other ~154cm boards).
Summary
I would categorize this board as a definite 'buy' if you can still find it. It has already sold out on the Burton website. However, if you can find it and afford it then you should certainly give this board serious consideration. Note that it's not a beginner board and it would likely lose its performance if you paired it with entry level bindings (I paired this board with standard EST Cartels).
I'll be testing out this board for the next three days. Hope this review helps. Feel free to throw any questions my way.
