Thirty Two Lashed lace hooks?

I have a pair of 2011 32 Lashed Fast Track boots, which I've loved. But they need to be replaced, so I ordered a new pair, this time with standard laces. But now that I've received them, it seems like the large, metal lacing hooks will rub against my binding straps and totally rip them up. It looks like 32 has used this design for the last couple years. Can anyone comment on if this is a problem?
