Board rental depots

I've been looking up ski resorts in the Eastern US for the first time out, and seeing rates for gear rental. One of them mentioned either using a major credit card or putting up a $300 per board deposit. I've not seen this mentioned at any other resorts, but it does make sense. I think I did see one other say either a major card or a drivers license.



Anyway, is it normal for a resort to require a card or a deposit for rentals?
