Helmet suggestions?

So I took a tumble last time I went riding, and I'm thinking it's time to get a helmet. Are there any features or brands to keep my eye out for/avoid? I'm a female if that matters. Also, should if I buy it the next time I go to the mountain (Killington, probably) is it going to be more expensive than if I find a local shop somewhere? Thanks ya'll!
