Okemo March 25 - 27

Ok, so the week before we had an outstanding Jay Cloud experience. But after being home for the weekend, our daughter has to get back to school, so with the roof rack loaded with boards for two, my wife ( who does not hit the hill), my daughter and the dog all head back east. The stop along the way this time, Okemo.
Now I have never really noticed a lot of love around here for Okemo and I had never been before. Like all resorts, I had heard that it is often a gong show on weekends, but we were able to avoid that being there mid week.
As we had the dog, we did not stay slopeside, but a couple of miles down the road from Ludlow at the Castle Pointe Hotel. If it matters to you, they take pets and go for a suite. Price is really good and you are only a true 5 minute drive from the slope.
Now, Okemo. First things first. If you are looking for steep and deep, this is not the place for you. Neither I or my daughter are good enough to tackle the blacks at Jay Peak. Those to us are big time, for real, expert terrain.
However other than the "expert / black" runs that were moguls, we rode all of the "expert / black" terrain at Okemo. Okemo was pretty much Nirvana for us. In our opinion, it is the Ultimate Intermediate mountain. In the east, we have experienced Jay, Smuggs, Whiteface, Sugarbush and Killington and for us this is the hill with the greatest abundance of Intermediate terrain. We loved the fact that we could ride the entire mountain from one end to the other. There are narrower trails like you have at Sugarbush and Jay as well as a number of big wide sweeping groomers like you have at Killington (with not nearly the number of dreaded crossovers). An outstanding variety of Blue/Black terrain.
We did not get any "fresh" during our three days there
But, the quality of the grooming at this hill is second to none. We rode nothing but beautiful carpet all three mornings. With sharp edges and fresh wax we had a blast ripping it up first thing every morning. :jumping1:
Given it's location, I can see how it would be a gong show on the weekend. But if you are sick for a couple of days during the week , and "Blue" is what you need, then Okemo is the place for you.
