moving from Ont to BC

Hey everyone,
So I will be relocating to BC from (toronto ONT) as I've taken a new position with my company. My office will actually be in Langley and I've been doing a lot of research about places to stay.
I've ruled out DT Van cause of the prices and the commute to Langley. I was originally set on living in Burnaby and commuting to Langley (been told around 40-50mins against traffic). Its sorta the mid way point between 'downtown' and work. However, lately been more open to maybe looking into Surrey as it would reduce the work commute. However, I've been told there are some bad parts of Surrey and wanted the locals take on it :)
It will just be myself...no fam or pets coming along...lol.
Any help would be appreciated.
