very depressing day, need advice!

d
So today was my 5th time out on a snowboard. I took some lessons a couple of years back, then went out earlier this season with a buddy of mine who is an experienced rider. He showed me some things.... the day kicked my butt, but I improved. Second time out, i was able to make down all of the greens at Monarch Mountain with relatively few falls. I stopped to rest on occasion, but my heal and toe turns were coming along nicely. Fourth time I went out (again at Monarch), I felt really good. Only falls were stupid ones, didn't feel tired on any of the runs and I probably did over 12 runs that day (some short, but most of the were the longest the mountain has to offer.)

After that fourth day, i felt so good, I started dreaming of jumps, buttering, etc, etc. I went and bought me a board, boots, and bindings.

158cm Arbor Formula

Burton Diode bindings (M)

and the K2 Thraxis boots (size 9)

I'm 180lbs and 5'9.

Today, my 5th day ever, i was a tad nervous due to the new setup. I knew the bindings were geared towards more advanced riders, but figured I would adjust. I got off the lift, and started down and noticed wow this is FAST.... too fast. I wiped and banged up my knee a tad and felt the snow. It had maybe a half of inch to an inch of powder (freshly groomed), but underneath it felt like ice. The whole day I was afraid to fall... it felt like cement.

I did 3 more runs and was totally worn out. I didn't feel confident in my turns, felt like I was going too fast, and basically heeled it, or toed it down most of the runs. Now, as a newbie, I'm still not able to go straight down the mountain without wide turns to keep my speed in check... but, at least i was able able to cruise at a steady pace by going back and forth on the lane.

It did get a bit slushy after 11 or so, but my confidence was gone. My question is... Should i just brush this off and contribute my failed day to the snow conditions, or possibly look at bringing these bindings back? I'm sure it was a combination of both, maybe, but that's why I'm here :) I bought them at REI and was told I could bring them back if they didn't work well for me.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Thanks!
