Alternate to Niseko for Powder

d
Hi all,

I just got back from my second trip to Niseko, and I'm already looking into my next snowboarding trip to Japan. I loved Niskeo, but just considering going somewhere different, but concerned nowhere will have the likelihood of freshies that you get in Niseko & surrounds.

From looking at daily reports, in Niseko it snows enough for freshies probably 2 out of 3 days on average, giving a very high likelihood of finding those fresh untracked powder runs (even if tracked by afternoons).

I've looked at daily reports for other areas in Japan (Furano, Hakuba, etc.), and it appears much much less likelihood of powder days, like only half or 1 in 3 days average of enough fresh snow overnight for a reset.

Considering my trip will be only a week or so long, I don't want to take the risk of not getting much fresh snow. Is there anywhere that snows as much as Niseko in Japan in January (not counting the resorts that are within driving distance of Niseko)? Or are there any other resorts much less crowded that you can still easily find freshies for days after a dump?

Needless to say, my favourite is off-piste untracked powder, with Mizuno being the highlight of my trip :-) Also only after lift accessible terrain. Maybe a small walk, but not really interested in hiking far from the lift (I did the peak for the back bowl once, but wouldn't do it every day).

Cheers,

Tom
