How to start snowboarding

Hey everyone.
I have wanted to get into snowboarding for absolutely years now. But I have got a few trips to the French Alps in the works to finally get going on it.
But seeing as I am from the UK, down South West, there is literally no store within a goo hundred odd miles that would have everything I need.
But that is also part of what I am asking (this is not just about the board so if this is in the wrong thread I apologise), what is everything you need and recommend for Snowboarding.
So far I can think of this:
Snowboard
Low Profile Gloves
Thermal wear
Layers
High quality coat
Bindings
Goggles
Boots
Maybe a Helmet
Is there anything I have missed?
Where could I get all this equipment online? (good brands etc)
Now I need help with the important bit, I am looking to spend around £400 on a board. I range in weight depending on times of the year such as football season and what I am going for at the gym. 9 to just over 10 stone (125-145 pounds)
and I am 5 foot 5 inches with a 5 and a half UK foot size. (Yes I am a full grown Male :eyetwitch: )
I was looking at the board types and there is so many, Off piste, Free ride, Free style. All of which need varying lengths and there are multiple camber and width options.
Ultimately I am looking for something that can perform well in the French Alps parks while handling a good few tricks and jumps.
I know it sounds impatient and people will recommend against it but I would rather start out with an intermediate board. I am rather stubborn starting from beginner.
Ultimately I am looking for a full "how to" for idiots here.
Any help appreciated.
