Steamboat for Spring Break

So heading to Steamboat for Spring Break early March and trying to get some info from people in the know... None of us have ever been there so not sure where to stay or if we should skip Steamboat entirely for somewhere else.
Good place to be for spring break? How is the nightscene? We're primarily going for the powder and tree runs but as a secondary priority the bars, hot springs, and of course the snowbunnies...
We're trying to stay within walking distance to the slopes... Probably skipping the ski-in/out so we can get a larger place for similar cost a block or so away from the village. Never been there but looks as if most bars are downtown and not at the village so if that's the case the exact condo/hotel we stay at is not important as cab/shuttle rides to the bars are going to be necessary... is that correct?
