The Mystery of the Boot Eaters!

d
This is a complete mystery - and not in a good way. :gaah:

Had my boots out drying (no wear near a heater by the way) and went to put them away today and this! (see attachment)

These boots are only a couple of seasons old and had pretty much no wear on them. The only thing I can think of is rodents in the apartment. There's no other evidence of rodents but can't think of what else it could be. Nothing else touched (gloves, inner soles of boots which were removed) except for the soles of the boots.

I just moved to Canada from New Zealand recently - they don't have some weird termites that eat rubber here do they? :whaa:

Going to see if can get them repaired or something to protect the soles a bit. Anyone else had any bizzarre boot eating occurrences likes this?

P:S: no sign of any of the boot pieces lying next to where the boots were so thinking definitely eaten or carried away (to make a nest?! = that's one expensive nest!!!)
