Old guys attmept boardercross !!!

d
My local hill did a Fusion Race, I guess cross between several types of snowboard racing. Since they were good enough to host an event I felt it important to support their efforts by participating. Plus I've never done anything like this so I thought it would be very cool and a great experience to add to my snowboarding credentials.

So I put out some feelers to fellow SBF members and these guys decide to join in.

  • MattyBBoop

  • Steve-O

  • Slyder (me)

  • Natalie

all decided to participate. (palmerfreak had intentions but family obligations)

a bad selfie at the end of the event and I look huge as YES I'm wearing my body armor. Proud to admit it, and glad I didn't need it.

Onto the event.

The course for us was tough but not to bad. I did scope it out prior to hitting it with one exception. I was coming into bank 3 expecting a simple bank. NOT the case, there is a drop off jump and yes I knuckled it bad. Back immediately tightens up a bit. This is why you scope completely first. I wasn't hurt but it was a eye opener.

The transition jump I skipped and just hit the landing. All during practice I was going gang buster. Race time I push it a little harder, if you go back and watch me hit that big spine/landing I come in fast, to fast and land on the flat. Not a great feeling especially since that first hit jarred me a bit. You can here me grunt on impact. With this said I decided to keep up the speed and make that jump off bank #3 that I cased on my first run and had avoided on all other practice runs. During the heat race I did hit it and yes I did clear it. Adrenaline had kicked in, even us old guys still feel the rush

In addition many riders had issues with the rollers after bank #4 including Matty who almost dropped out of the race from casing the knuckle. I decided to just drop each one as a roller enough though they weren't designed that way. ** It worked for me, wasn't pretty but worked **

So long post to say that I had an absolute blast. It was a great experience, I made it through in one piece.

I did it, I/we lived and we had a blast. Another conquest for guys with "Gummers Syndrome"
